New Women’s Bible Study –- Weds, 10am, Jan 3 – Feb 7

Good or God? by John Bevere These days the terms good and God seem synonymous. We believe what’s generally accepted as good must be in line with God’s will. But is that all there is to it? If good is so obvious, why does the Bible say that we need discernment to recognize it? Contact hyajack@msn.com for more info. Sign up here or on the Lake Samm app. Childcare by reservation.

20’s on the 2nd – Off in Dec

Merry Christmas! We’ll do our normal homegroup on Dec 10th instead of meeting directly after church, and take the rest of December off. We’ll meet again on Jan. 14.

Lake Samm Giving Tree – Return by Dec 17

The Giving Tree is out for another season of blessings! Select a gift tag off the tree with a specific request. After purchasing the gift, return it with the tag securely attached by Dec. 17th. Every year your kindness and generosity touches hearts and changes lives. Thank you for your kind hearts and generosity. Merry Christmas to all!!

Volunteers Bring Thanksgiving To Homeless In Seattle And Eastside

Nearly 200 homeless people in Seattle and the Eastside enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner last month, thanks to donated food and 14 volunteers. The group cooked 20 turkeys with all the fixings and distributed meals for three hours under an I-5 overpass near downtown Seattle.

After returning to Lake Samm, the group ate a Thanksgiving meal together, then delivered food to the Eastside Winter Shelter for men in Bellevue and to The Sophia Way women’s shelter, in Kirkland. Leftovers later fed Lake Samm’s janitors, with the rest going into a soup for the Eastside Winter Shelter.

Many of those served were touched by generous act, and even some of the volunteers (half of them from outside Lake Samm) began reflecting on the goodness of God, said Kelly Tomkins, one of the volunteers. “It was like God Himself was bringing people in,” he said. “It was cool watching God do his thing.”

Depending on food donations, the group may repeat the ministry between Christmas and New Year’s Day. “We’ll keep doing our gleanings. We’d like to [serve] turkey and ham,” Kelly said. Anyone interested in helping with food, cooking, or serving may contact Kelly. (kellyt@lakesamm.org)

A Note From Curt Regarding Divisions in Our Culture

I have talked a lot in church about how I believe the Lord is the One Who has caused the divisions our culture is having. I have also said I believe He is doing this so that those who will engage their differences with others will actually find deeper truths that cannot be learned without the divisions. Justine Morris just sent me an article (below) that makes precisely this point, and note that most often this takes some heat - which we all want to avoid, but perhaps we shouldn’t.

Please take a minute to read it because I think it helps us understand what He’s doing, and how we can engage it. Note: it may not always go well, but when it does, 1+1=5, which is to say, limited, finite, people get closer to the fullness that is He Who is infinite. As He’s always said, it takes all of us together to image Him… These are exciting times, filled with opportunity!!!
